Keynote Speaking

Many conferences and special events have a lasting impact whilst many others do not. The difference is often the Keynote Speaker.

A dynamic, motivational presentation may have great initial impact but does the message last for more than a few days? A good Keynote speaker can motivate, inspire and entertain, yet ensure that the message stays with the audience to make it an event to remember. If you remember nothing else about the event you will remember the message.

Mike and Lesley have attended numerous conferences both interstate and internationally over the course of twenty years. Listening to a vast array of keynote speakers has sharpened their appreciation of what makes a good keynote speech. Working in conjunction with Mark Hunter the 2009 World Champion of Public Speaking, Storkey’s Team can offer a definitive course on Keynote Speaking.

Keynote Speaking Skills

Keynote speaking is a specific skill that requires apart from the attributes of a good speaker the ability to delver a message and to motivate the audience into a course of action as a result.

In order to achieve this outcome the Keynote speaker needs to develop the following skills:

  • Develop an appropriate speech for the occasion by ensuring adequate research is conducted.
  • Determine the required outcome required by the organisation conducting the event
  • Ensure time scales are fully understood
  • Research the make up of their audience
  • Check the facilities are suitable for the presentation
  • Look at the lighting and sound facilities at the venue before the presentation.
  • Provide a suitable bio for their introduction.
  • Create a handout if appropriate.

A good speaker is not necessarily a keynote speaker; often a good speech reflects the personal opinions or aspirations of the speaker. A keynote speaker can deliver a memorable speech that reflects the opinions of the organisation that hired them. There is quite a difference.

“Mike and Lesley Storkey are a wealth of wisdom and inspiration to those around them. Drawing on vast amounts of experience and knowledge, they provide steady hands that guide those who seek their help and always leave you feeling positive and empowered. I would recommend them to anyone seeking to develop their leadership and communication skills.”

“People pay attention to the presenters and the material, they ask questions and they respond appropriately. Mike and Lesley succeed in keeping the audience’s attention and I, for one, invariably learn something I had not known before, despite my own experience. It is evident that Mike and Lesley have extensive knowledge on a range of topics from better speaking styles and tips to running smoother meetings to organisational facets of administration.
Mike and Lesley speak with confidence and knowledge. They are relaxed in front of an audience and engage people in their presentations.”
